Rikkyo University, one of the oldest private Universities in Tokyo, Japan, offers an undergraduate degree program conducted in Japanese for international students: the NEXUS Program (NEXt generation for Unity & Solidarity Program). Students studying in the NEXUS Program will learn the specialties of their faculties, understand the cultures and backgrounds of various countries/regions, and learn about global collaborative coexistence that will lead to the next generation.

Program Features

Intensive Japanese language classes for the first semester

The NEXUS students are required to take intensive Japanese language classes for the first semester to acquire the Japanese language skills enough to study specialized undergraduate courses conducted in Japanese. The students who apply for the NEXUS Program are required to have a Japanese language proficiency of N3 or higher on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at the time of application.

Colleges with a diverse range of specialties

The NEXUS students enter one of the nine colleges through the NEXUS Program from the first semester: Arts, Intercultural Communication, Economics, Sociology, Law and Politics, Community and Human Services, Business, Contemporary Psychology, and Sport and Wellness. After passing intensive Japanese language classes, they will be able to take Japanese-based specialized undergraduate courses from the second semester onwards. Students are able to choose their college and department (course) according to their interests at the time of application.

Admission system based on a recommendation by the school principal

Admission to the NEXUS Program is carried out based on a recommendation by the school principal. It is only available to the students from designated high schools concluding the student’s acceptance agreement into the NEXUS Program with Rikkyo University. The admissions requirements are determined based on the acceptance agreement into the NEXUS Program between each designated high school and Rikkyo University. Students don’t need to travel to Japan for the entrance examination.

Scholarships

Scholarship for the first year determined before enrollment

Students can apply for the Rikkyo Promising Future Scholarship (RPFS) for first-year international students at the time of application if they meet the requirements for this scholarship. The award amount is equivalent to the tuition and required fees for the first three consecutive semesters. Scholarship awards will be announced at the time of the admission notification.

Scholarship opportunities throughout students’ academic career

Rikkyo offers the Rikkyo Exceptional Student Scholarship (RESS) for second to fourth-year international students. Moreover, in principle, the students awarded the RPFS in the regional bracket given priority for development are eligible for the RESS from the second to fourth years. It will be also announced at the same time as the admissions notification.
In addition to the RESS, Rikkyo prepares a variety of scholarships for international students to concentrate on their studies.
