After enrollment in September, NEXUS students must take intensive Japanese language classes (10 credits) during the first semester (for a half year). The NEXUS students will be able to take the specialized undergraduate courses from the second semester onwards (for four years) if they pass all the intensive Japanese language classes and are determined to have Japanese language proficiency enough to study the specialized undergraduate courses.

The NEXUS program is designed to take 4.5 years in total to complete. Only the College of Intercultural Communication (CIC) for the NEXUS Program is designed to take four years to complete.

The goal of the NEXUS program is for students to learn the specialties of their colleges, mainly in Japanese, to understand the cultures and backgrounds of various countries and regions, and to confront issues concerning global coexistence through communication in Japanese to develop the next generation of leaders. As an overarching theme, the program aims to cultivate people who will actively engage with multicultural coexistence and the global community from these perspectives.
